About P&C Fresh
P&C Foods began in 1944 as the Producers and Consumers food cooperative in Ithaca, New York as a way for farmers in Upstate New York to get their products to market efficiently. Over the next 66 years P&C grew to more than 70 supermarkets serving many communities in Upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. P&C was also a major wholesaler in Upstate New York. From its Syracuse warehouse, the company served 99 independent supermarkets in central New York, the majority of which still operate under the Big M trade name. In 2010 the P&C chain was purchased by Tops Markets of Buffalo, New York.
In 2011, Hometown Markets, LLC was formed with the primary mission of purchasing two P&C locations from Tops Markets. The P&C Clinton Avenue store in Cortland, NY and the P&C Pine Tree Road store in Ithaca, NY were purchased by Hometown Markets, LLC in the summer of 2011. Our goal is to exceed our Customers’ evolving expectations by constantly seeking better ways to create and deliver the best possible products, service, and value in the Communities we serve.
Hometown Markets is owned by two families with decades of experience in the supermarket business, and share a passion for fresh food and great service. The decision to go forward with the P&C name was an easy one. With its deep roots and long history in these markets, the P&C name is the foundation we are using to build a new offering in the marketplace. With a new start, our passion for fresh food and great service, we have enhanced the name and the in store offering and will go forward as P&C Fresh.
They say every business needs a mission statement, and ours is a simple one: “We are a locally owned supermarket, committed to offering exceptional value in a service based environment, with an unwavering focus on Fresh Foods.”
P&C Fresh……Always Fresh.
